WELCOME TO M2 STUDIOS @ MAD HAT

M2 Studios, formerly known as Mad Hat, is a professional recording studio that has been working in sound recording and music production in the West Midlands for over 30 years. 

The studio recently completed a move in 2021 to a newer more bespoke set up, at the same address as before in a different building. 
M2 operates Pro Tools HD and Logic combined with an Audient ASP 8024 36 channel console. The studio also has an impressive selection of software plug ins, instruments, outboard, monitors and microphones and is in a quiet countryside location just outside of Wolverhampton and 2 miles from J2 M54. ​
We have masses of free uncomplicated parking big enough for large vans and trucks.

PERSONNEL

MARK V STUART is the proprietor of M2 Studios.

Mark is an engineer and producer who in 2022, has been a music industry professional for 40 years. He has worked in many studios and recording environments from 4-track analogue tape, 2″ reel-to-reel, through to the digital age and DAW. 
He has worked with some top producers in his time such as Steve Lillywhite, Steve Brown, Kit Woolvern, Robert Plant and Jim Lea to name but a few. With a thorough understanding how to get the best performances out of an artist, and an invaluable pool of real-world recording experience to draw on, Mark’s input is an asset to any recording project. ​
Outside of the studio environment, Mark is also a well-respected live front-of-house sound engineer and tour manager. He has done the sound for bands in all sorts of venues, ranging from Sonisphere Festival’s main stage to large and small venues all over Europe (including the occasional pub gig!).

SHEENA SEAR
Also known as ‘Sheenius’, has been working with Mark at the studio for around 20 years now and has established herself as an extremely talented engineer, producer and musician.

Known especially for her ability to multitask and exceptional Pro Tools operating speed, she is also a talented string and vocal arranger and to quote one client “the quickest editor of drums I have ever witnessed’. She has engineered a few UK national chart albums as well as numerous recordings that have received incredible reviews. ​

With a broad-range of software knowledge outside of Pro Tools, plus a background in classical music and a graduate from Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Sheena is an incredible asset at the studio.

ABOUT ME - A brief history of Mark V Stuart

Working originally at Switch Music in the early 1980s which was a 4-track music demo studio, in the late 1980s the name changed to Mad Hat Studios and recording equipment changed to multitrack analogue tape (16 track then 24), which brought the studio in to the professional end of the market.​

Over the years the Mark continued to upgrade and expand his technical knowledge and now recording is based around Avid Pro Tools. 

Mark has  produced albums and promotional recordings for bands and artistes from all over the Midlands and Birmingham area, and indeed all over the world, with clients and artistes working with us from afar afield as Scandinavia, Germany, USA, Australia, Africa, New Zealand and more. ​

Mark has a great ‘track’ record for quality production recordings of all genres of music from metal and hard rock bands to brass bands, from bhangra acts to hip hop, from folk music artists to jazz combos and continues to do so.
